Once someone has become a gambling addict it is often very difficult for them to stop on their own. Many gambling addicts will continue gambling until they have lost everything and often relapse if they do manage to stop gambling for a period of time. In order to maintain lasting recovery from a gambling addiction, many gambling addicts require some type of formal treatment.
At eDrug Rehab we offer inpatient treatment for gambling addiction that typically lasts 28 days but may last longer depending on the individual. During treatment, the patient typically receives a combination of personal and group therapy and issues underlying the addictive gambling are explored and treated. The gambling addict is also provided tools for maintaining abstinence from gambling once discharged from the facility and taught to take responsibility for continuing treatment of their gambling addiction. There are several community-based resources for treatment of gambling including Gamblers Anonymous (http://www.gamblersanonymous.org/), a self organized group of gambling addicts that support one another’s recovery based on the 12 steps originally developed in Alcoholics Anonymous.
