Although it was once believed to be a non-addictive substance, cocaine is actually one of the most highly addictive illegal drugs in America. Crack cocaine is a modified version of cocaine that is even more addictive and has similar effects on the user.

Methamphetamine - also known as crystal meth, meth, crystal, ice, speed, and crank – stimulates the central nervous system and produces a feeling of euphoria and focus in the user.

Heroin is an extremely addictive illegal substance. Like most opioids, it is derived from the sap of the opium poppy [Papaver somniferum]. Heroin is a central nervous system depressant and creates an intense feeling of relaxation and euphoria in the user.

The term “opiate” refers to any drug that is derived from opium. Opium was one of the earliest drugs discovered by man. Opiates are a type of analgesic meaning that they reduce the sensation of pain.

Addiction to prescription drugs has become much more prevalent in the past several years particularly among adolescents. Regardless of age, addiction to prescription drugs can become a debilitating illness that often robs the addict of everything they once valued.

Xanax belongs to a class of drugs know as benzodiazepines which includes other well known prescription drugs such as Valium, Klonopin, and Ativan. These drugs are central nervous system depressants and are prescribed in the treatment of anxiety disorders. As one of the fastest acting benzodiazepines, Xanax very quickly produces feelings of relaxation in the user which is one of the reasons it is so addictive.
