Addiction SpecialistAnswer: If you are taking suboxone it is very important not to take another opiate unless under the direction and supervision of a medical doctor. This is because a dose of another opiate that has only a mild effect when suboxone is in the system may be a large overdose once the suboxone wears off. This effect is due to the fact that buprenorphine, one of the drugs in suboxone, is a potent partial opiate agonist and will block the effects of other opiates taken on top of it.
