Addiction SpecialistAnswer: Overuse of Xanax has not been shown to cause nerve damage but it can cause the development of physiologic dependence which can result in seizures if the medication is suddenly stopped. For this reason, it is always advisable to taper off of Xanax rather than stop suddenly
