Answer:
Yes. Withdrawal from benzodiazepines, barbiturates, GHB, and alcohol can lead to death. These kinds of detox should be done under medical supervision. Withdrawal from other substances such as meth and opioids can be unpleasant, but are unlikely to cause death. Regardless, you should seek medical evaluation before deciding to detox from any substance.
