Addiction SpecialistAnswer: It takes different people different amounts of time to recover from an addiction. The important thing to remember is that recovery is possible. Recovering addicts in twelve step programs talk about being relieved of the obsession to drink or use drugs as a result of working the steps of the program. Staying away from things that you associate with using heroin (the area where you used to buy it for example) can help minimize your cravings, particularly during the early part of recovery.
