Answer: The acute phase of withdrawal which can involve insomnia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle cramps, and cold sweats usually peaks in three days and improves from there. Post-acute withdrawal syndrome (what comes after acute withdrawal) is much milder but can last several weeks. The symptoms of this period are typically difficulty sleeping and depressed mood.
