Answer to your Question

Question: How long does pot stay in your system?

Submitted on: November 20, 2008

Answer: As mentioned in an earlier answer, the amount of time THC (the major psychoactive chemical in pot) stays in your system (and can be detected in your urine) varies tremendously. One of the reasons for this is that THC gets absorbed into fat cells where it may stay for weeks before being released back into the blood stream. Interestingly, there is evidence that people who smoke pot more frequently, metabolize THC more quickly. However, the more pot that is smoked, the more THC will be deposited in fat cells. The result of this is that how long pot will stay in a particular individual's system is difficult or impossible to predict. The answer that is typically given is that THC metabolites can be detected in urine from 3 days to over 1 month from the time of last use.
