Answer to your Question
Question: I have an 18 year old daughter addicted to pain killers. She is progressively getting out of control with her life. Is there anyway I can force her into a program, as she is not a minor any longer. I live in the State of Florida. Please help me with this, as I am at a loss.

Addiction SpecialistAnswer: No one can be forced into drug treatment against their will, with the exception of court-ordered treatment as a sentencing requirement for a crime someone has been convicted of. In situations like the one you've described, the family or friends of the addict may decide to stage an intervention. The goal of an intervention is to confront the addict with the consequences of their behavior and hope that they agree to enter treatment. If they accept, they usually are brought to a drug treatment facility right then. It is important that this be done only under the guidance of a professional interventionist. For more information on interventions and drug treatment, you can call us at the number above and speak with an addiction specialist.
