Answer to your Question

Question: I was reading about oxycotin abuse on your web site and it said that if you snort it you could get Hepatitis C, is that true and how is that possible?

Submitted on: May 15, 2009

Answer: Yes it is possible. It is known that Hepatitis C can be spread through intranasal (snorted) cocaine use. This likely occurs when users share the straw being used to snort the drug. The hepatitis C virus is found in the blood and if blood from one users nasal mucosa comes into contact with another's the virus can be transmitted, particularly if there are small abrasions in the mucosa as often happens with intranasal drug use. The same process of transmission could happen with any drug that is snorted including Oxycontin. For this reason, it is a good idea not to share straws with other users.
