Addiction SpecialistAnswer: Effective treatment for addiction can differ from individual to individual but there are certain things that are associated with a good outcome. These include complete abstinence from drugs and alcohol, avoidance of people and places that are associated with drug use (this is particularly true in early recovery), and adherence to a treatment program. Doing these things will often involve significant changes in lifestyle including finding non-using friends.
