Answer: Ambien works at the same receptors as a class of drugs called benzodiazepines which includes medications like valium, xanax, ativan, klonopin, and many others. It can also lead to the development of tolerance and withdrawal symptoms like benzodiazepines. As such, if you have been taking ambien for a long time, particularly if you have been taking more than the prescribed amount, it is important to detox under medical supervision. If you have been suffering significant negative consequences from your ambien use, you may benefit from inpatient or outpatient drug rehab.
