Answer to your Question

Question: What do i do when my son who is an alcoholic & on probation because he got a DUI, has been stealing my prescribed pain medicine. I have hid it my Mom lent me a safe he got into it somehow So i bought another with a key to fancy but what i could afford, & found out tonight he had taken more. Then when I walked out of my bedroom mad about that he was rumming in my purse. I made him leave. I feel i should go to his probation officer as i can't take it anymore! and I can't afford him stealing my medicine. and I am afraid now to ask my doctor in August for more as i don't want her thinking I am a addict as i am not I only take it when i can't handle my pain anymore. The stipulations of his probation is not to drink or do drugs yet he keeps it up.

Answer: Setting boundaries with family member who have an addiction can be very difficult. Sometimes an addict will suffer severe consequences before they become ready to get sober. Stealing under any circumstances is never justified and having an addiction does not exonerate someone from breaking the law.
