Drug Detox
The length and methods of drug detox depend on the type of drug that was causing the addiction. Withdrawal symptoms can include seizures, bone pain, insomnia, cold sweats, diarrhea, anxiety, and depression among others. Because of the severity of some of these potential withdrawal symptoms, drug detox should be performed by trained medical professionals.
After an addict decides on their own to enter treatment or accepts help during a drug intervention, they are brought to a drug rehab facility where the first step is detox. In addition to the potential withdrawal symptoms mentioned above, the staff will evaluate the patient for other medical conditions that may have resulted from snorting or injecting the substance. Intravenous drug use increases the risk of contracting Hepatitis C, endocarditis (infection of the heart), skin lesions, and HIV while snorting drugs can lead to Hepatitis C as well as destruction of the nasal septum.
